Bastien Baumet

 



 

 



Born in 1988, Bastien Baumet began playing the euphonium at the Nîmes Music School (in Patrick Maurin’s class) and continued his musical education at the Villeurbanne Conservatory (in Christian Delange’s class). In 2006, when he was 17, he was admitted into the famous National Conservatory of Music (CNSM) of Paris , where, with the unanimous decision of the jury, he won his Premier Prix with in 2009.

Since 2006, he has often been involved in orchestras such as l’Orchestre National de Lyon , l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, l’Orchestre de l’Opéra National de Paris, l’Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse and l’Orchestre National de France.  He has played in famous concert halls all over the world, including les Chorégies d’Orange, la salle Pleyel (Paris), le Forum Garibaldi (Monte-Carlo), the Royal Albert Hall (London), the Musikverein (Vienna), l’Opéra Bastille, Suntory Hall (Tokyo) and the Philharmonie (Berlin), He has worked  with many of the world’s most famous conductors including Myung-Whun Chung, Tugan Sokhiev, Pinchas Steinberg, Pierre Boulez, Leonard Slatkin, Philippe Jorden, Vasily Petrenko and Mikko Franck.

Bastien has been a member of the National French Police Orchestra since 2008.

He is also the principal euphonium player of the Paris Brass Band (Winner of French National Championship 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) and member of the Prestige Brass Quartet, appearing on their CD ‘Divertimento’.

In 2006, he won the very prestigious European Competition for Young Soloists in Luxembourg. Two years later, Bastien won first prize at the Jeju International Brass Competition at Jeju in South Korea, one of the most famous euphonium-based events. In June 2012 he won the first prize at Amboise’s Brass Band Open Championship. In July 2012, Bastien became a teacher in Paris’ 13th district Conservatory.

Since 2008, Bastien has performed regularly as a soloist in France and abroad. He is also in great demand for masterclasses and travels all over the world as a clinician. In 2012 he released his first CD ‘The Art of the Euphonium’ for the record company Indesens. In 2014, he released his second CD ‘Portraits’ in duet with cornet virtuoso Alexis Demailly.

Bastien Baumet is a Besson Artist for the well-known instrument manufacturer Buffet Crampon. He has always played a Denis Wick 4AL mouthpiece.
