Misa Mead (previously Misa Akahoshi) is an internationally renowned euphonium soloist. Her performing career takes her all around the world. Misa was born in the city of Kumamoto, in the south west of Japan. She graduated from Tokyo College of Music in 2008. At both high school and university she was a scholarship student. She has long favoured Denis Wick mouthpieces and is a great advocate for them.

She has won many international accolades, including the unanimous Gold Medal at the European Solo Competition for Young Soloists in Luxembourg 2011, and many awards in her native Japan. She has appeared at Tubamania Festivals in Thailand, the South West Region Tuba Euphonium Conference (SWRTEC) and the International Women’s Brass Conference. She has worked closely with the Tokyo-based Spiel Kammerensemble. Her debut CD Journey, was released to great critical acclaim. World of Brass commented:

Misa is an active as freelance composer and orchestrator. Many of her works are published by ASKS Winds (Japan) and Bocchino Music (UK) distributed world-wide.
She is a Besson Euphonium Artist and plays the SM Ultra 4X mouthpiece.
