The Music You Know

Mary Galime

Music reviews are the best! You get to gush over your favorite, or not so favorite music, and you choose what is right or wrong about the music. There are many different types of music reviews you can create. In this assignment we focus in on the music you know.  These reviews tend to be about music that has been well studdied. You provide some background to the composer, the historical or societal context behind the music, and you are hoping to educate your audience through your review of the music. Check out this example of these hosts discussing movie music they know that sounds exactly like classical music they know.

Time to make your own! What music do you know really well?

-Choose music that you love, performed on the instrument you play
-pop music from different artists that sounds very similar.... who chose it first?
-the band music or  a  solo you just performed, but find recordings of other bands/musicians performing it and discuss the differences and what parts werer easy and hard for you

Now that you found the music, do some background research to round out the information you are able to provide. You will want your own knowledge from personal experience mixed with historical or contextual context. Also, your viewer/reader will want to hear about your opinions on the performance or execution of what is being performed.

Get your musical clips organizied if you are going to create a video. Organize in the order you will be communicating about them. Set up your video feed whether it be computer or smart phone. You many need to enquire with your teacher on how to do this best.
